mATTHEW bENNETT
Matt is a US Army Infantry veteran with multiple tours to Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation New Dawn where he served with the 1st Cavalry Division in numerous combat roles. These include battalion sniper team member/leader, infantry team leader, radio operator and various other duties. After exiting active duty he served with the Texas National Guard and Texas Department of Criminal Justice as a correctional officer.
Since 2016 he has been a commissioned Texas Peace Officer. Roles include district patrol officer, field training officer and detective investigator. In 2018 he and other officers formed a training group to exchange information and useful firearms knowledge/skills. This grew and developed into a curriculum based on real world experience of the participants. With Detonics this has been formalized into several classes tailored to both uniformed patrol officer and plain clothes/civilian needs.
Kate is a Texas Transplant, having lived in the San Antonio area since 2019. She started her medical career in 2016 as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She spent time in medical office management before joining the U.S. Air Force as a Combat Medic.
During her service as a medic, she was stationed at the Level 1 Trauma Center in San Antonio, Brooke Army Medical Center. With experience in the ER, ICU step down, Inpatient Medical/Surgical floor, and hospital surgical services. She is currently a licensed vocational nurse and a Pre-Med student on her way to becoming a doctor.
With deep appreciation for the safety of others, she has dedicated herself to imparting the life-saving training and skills to minimize casualties and save lives.

This is an introductory course to familiarize first-time or future gun owners with the safe, lawful and useful employment of firearms. Conducted in classroom setting and with no live-fire, this course is designed to give students the knowledge and confidence to use firearms both safely and effectively. Topics covered include firearms safety, laws relating to gun ownership and use, and familiarization with common types of firearms. Students can expect to complete this class with a basic understanding of firearms as well as the ability to safely and confidently use their firearm at a first range trip or training course.

This course is an introduction to the use of modern semi-automatic handguns. Drills focus on fundamentals of marksmanship and different shooting positions with an emphasis on defensive use of the handgun. This course blends multiple techniques from numerous disciplines, taking the most useful parts of each as applicable to different scenarios that may be encountered in a defensive shooting. Students can expect to complete this class with the basic skills to employ a handgun as a defensive tool as well as a base of skills to build upon with future training.

This course is an introduction to the use of modern semi-automatic intermediate rifles like the AR-15 and AK. Drills focus on fundamentals of marksmanship and techniques of use with the rifle from multiple shooting positions. Whether taken as a refresher or as a first-time rifle owner, the student can expect to complete this class with a foundational understanding of the rifle and the basic drills to continue with skill development.

This course is tailored specifically to the employment of duty handguns by uniformed law enforcement officers. It is focused on development of basic skills as well as the introduction of new techniques to enhance a patrol officer’s effectiveness. This course blends both current standardized and non-conventional techniques to give patrol officers effective responses to all scenarios. Students can expect to complete this class with refreshed fundamental skills as well as techniques to address gaps in common law enforcement training.
